Overview of Syllabus Editor

The Syllabus Editor lets you modify your syllabus by adding or deleting links and comments. You can also add a schedule and modify the title and section information.

NOTE: The work you do in the Syllabus Editor is automatically saved each time you make a change.

Changing the Title or Section

Change the Course Title by editing the Title area in the Syllabus Information pane. Change the Course Section by editing the Section area in the Syllabus Information pane.

Exporting Your Syllabus

The work you do in the Syllabus Editor is not available online until you choose the Export button in the Syllabus Information pane.

When you choose the Export button, the following alert will appear.

An alert with the message "Exporting your syllabus may take a couple of minutes. Please click 'OK' and wait for the 'Export Complete' message to appear." and an OK button.

Choose OK and wait for the following page to appear.

A page with the message "Export Syllabus to HTML. Export Complete. Use the Syllabus button in the TDLC toolbar to view your Syllabus."

NOTE: It is very important to wait for the page above to be certain all data has been saved correctly.

Adding a Schedule

Assign a schedule of dates by taking the following steps.

  1. Choose the Schedule button in the Syllabus Information pane.
  2. From the Schedule page, choose the previous month and next month buttons to choose the starting month.
  3. Indicate the normal class Meeting Days by marking the checkbox next to each desired weekday.
  4. Remove any special dates (e.g., holidays) from the schedule by clearing the checkbox next to the undesirable date.
  5. Choose the Update Month button to save the schedule for the month.
  6. Repeat this process for the next month.

NOTE: The schedule is not saved until you press the Update Month button.

Adding a Session

Add a session by taking the following steps.

  1. The session will be added after the last session in the Syllabus pane.
  2. Choose the Insert Session button.

Moving a Session

Move a session by taking the following steps.

  1. The session currently shown in the Syllabus pane will be moved. You may want to change the session shown before moving the session.
  2. Choose the Move Session button.
  3. The following prompt will appear. Enter the new session number and choose the OK button. All subsequent sessions will be renumbered automatically. You may cancel the move by choosing the Cancel button.

Deleting a Session

Delete a session by taking the following steps.

  1. The session currently shown in the Syllabus pane will be deleted. You may want to change the session shown before deleting the session.
  2. Choose the Delete Session button.

Changing the Session Shown

The current session number is shown to the right of the Session label on the Syllabus pane. The sessions are always assigned numbers from 1 to the number of sessions. All session operations renumber sessions to ensure that they follow this rule while keeping them in the same order. You can change the session currently shown by choosing one of the following navigation buttons.

  • The First Session button displays the first session (session 1).
  • The Previous Session button displays the session immediately before the current session.
  • The Next Session button displays the session immediately after the current session.
  • The Last Session button displays the last session.

In addition, you can go directly to any session by choosing the Go To Session Number button. The following prompt will appear. Enter the new session number and choose the OK button. You may cancel the change by choosing the Cancel button.

Working With Assignments

Adding an Assignment

Add a session by taking the following steps.

  1. Choose the Insert Assignment button.
  2. The assignment will be added at the end of the list of assignments shown in the Syllabus pane. You may want to move the assignment shown after adding the assignment.

  1. The assignment currently shown in the Syllabus pane will be moved. You may want to change the assignment shown before moving the assignment.
  2. Choose the Move Assignment button.
  3. The following prompt will appear. Enter the new assignment number and choose the OK button. All subsequent assignments will be renumbered automatically. You may cancel the move by choosing the Cancel button.

Adding Readings and Exercises

Add reading and exercises by taking the following steps.

  1. Choose the chapter from the Chapter list in the Assignment Items pane. The Subchapter list will automatically fill with items.
  2. Choose the section from the Subchapter list in the Assignment Items pane. The Subchapter Items list will automatically fill with items.
  3. Choose the readings and exercises you wish to add from the Subchapter Items list in the Assignment Items pane.
  4. Choose the Delete Exercise button to the right of the Subchapter Items label.

Adding Related Links

Add related links by taking the following steps.

  1. Edit the Name area in the Assignment Items pane below the Related Links label.
  2. Edit the Address area in the Assignment Items pane below the Related Links label.
  3. Choose the Delete Exercise button to the right of the Related Links label.

Adding Comments

Add comments by taking the following steps.

  1. Edit the text area in the Assignment Items pane below the Comments label.
  2. Choose the Delete Exercise button to the right of the Comments label.

Deleting Readings and Exercises

Delete an assignment item by taking the following steps.

  1. Change the assignment shown to a reading and exercise assignment.
  2. Choose the reading you wish to delete from the list of readings shown. Choose the exercise you wish to delete from the list of exercises shown.
  3. To delete the chosen reading, choose the Delete Reading button above the Readings list. To delete the chosen exercise, choose the Delete Exercise button above the Exercises list.

Deleting Related Links

Delete a related link by taking the following steps.

  1. Change the assignment shown to a related link assignment.
  2. Choose the related link you wish to delete from the list of related links shown.
  3. Choose the Delete Related Link button.

  2. The comment currently shown will be deleted.
